Life in the Gardens: Some Views of the Phipps Conservatory

Saturday I had the opportunity to go to Pittsburgh’s outstanding Phipps Conservatory. As an avid gardener and plant lover, I was feeling fairly desperate for some greenery after a couple of months of winter weather lockdown.

A frequenter of the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., I thought I might be immune to the beauty of a tropical forest on display in a meticulously maintained greenhouse, but Phipps does a phenomenal job of making the experience unique, including the Hans Godo Fräbel glass exhibit. The glass installations were integrated throughout the Conservatory and enhanced many of the exhibits. “Designed to whisk guests away to a dazzling, fresh world, the exhibition is filled with whimsical figures, mysterious masks, playful sculptures, and a botanical interplay never-before-seen in the region.”
